To His Excellency Frederick HALDIMAND Esqr. General and Commander in Chief of His Majesty’s Forces in the Province of Quebec &c. &c. &c. |

The Memorial of Captain David McFALL of the Queen’s Loyal Rangers- Humbly Sheweth That Your Excellency’s Memorialist in Consideration of his past services, was in 1776 appointed a Lieutenant by General Sir Guy CARLETON, and in August of the ensuing year, was promoted to a Captain in the Queens Loyal Rangers by Lieutenant General BURGOYNE then at Fort Edward and was mustered as such. That Your Excellency’s Memorialist being ordered on the Expedition to Bennington, was taken Prisoner by the Rebels who Stripped him of all he had, That having been informed whilst a Prisoner of General BURGOYNE’s having Commissions for the Officers of the Queen’s Loyal Rangers, and that your Memorialist was in the hands of Colonel Kingston, he wrote to Lieutenant Colonel ANSTRUTHER of the 62d Regiment, requesting him to apply to General BURGOYNE for it, and received an Answer from that Gentleman dated at Cambridge the 23d March 1778, of which the following is an Extract- “That it was not in the General’s power to take any Steps in his present situation, your Line of Application will be more properly thro’ the Commander in Chief in Canada when you get exchanged, or permitted to go from hence by the Congress.”
I am Sir Captn. McFALL Your Memorialist having obtained Liberty to come to Canada on his Parole, in Order to perfect his Exchange, humbly hopes, your Excellency will be pleased to take his distressed case into consideration, and give directions for that pupose, that he may no longer remain inactive, at a time, when he may be of Service to His King and Country. Your Memorialist is willing to go on any Service Your Excellency should think proper, but as he is distressed for want of Cloathing & other necessaries, not having had a Settlement upwards of three years, begs, Your Excellency will be pleased to communicate Your Excellency’s pleasure to him on that head,
And Your Memorialist will in duty pray, Quebec 31st August 1780
