Loyalist Muster Rolls |

This muster is the earliest surviving one for the 6th battalion. It came just after the unit was heavily engaged in repelling Sullivan’s Raid on Staten Island the month before and just prior to Sir Henry CLINTON’s foray into northern New Jersey. The unit suffered losses in each battle, including the death of one of its majors, John BARNES. The 6th battalion was but short lived, as it was drafted as an understrength unit into the 3rd battalion in April of 1778. The commander of the 6th battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac ALLEN, would become the commander of the “new” 3rd battalion, and remain so for the rest of the war. All the muster rolls for the 6th battalion can be found in the National Archives of Canada, RG 8, “C” Series, Volume 1860. Some call rolls for November of 1777 are in the Sir Henry Clinton Papers, University of Michigan, William L. Clements Library.
