Loyalist Notes

Volume 1, Number 1                                                               February, 2000

Well, it was a long time coming, but we have finally opened for business! What started out as a modest, semi-serious thought last April has been molded into an easily accessible resource for Loyalist researchers, genealogists and reenactors. We are pretty proud of our efforts and hope you find the material useful and interesting. There is much more to come though.

While we have at present about 1,000 files contained within the site, there are many, many more to add. As time permits, we will expand and fill out just about every section on the site.

As of now, we are pretty light on Southern units for regimental history. That will change shortly. The material is there, it just needs to be added. Same with other regiments, muster rolls and memorials. Muster rolls regrettably take the most time to translate into a useable on-line file. For that reason, they will be slow in getting on here, so we hope you will bear with us.

We are also lighter than we want to be on some of our genealogy topics, such as Female Ancestors, Church Records and our Maps & Gazetter section. All in good time...

Among the things that we hope to do with this modest newsletter is to inform you of what new types of files we have put on our site each month. This will keep you up to date on additions that may be of interest to you.

The idea of the site is not to keep it exactly as it appears now, but to grow it and in certain instances rotate what material is available. We'll let you know what's new, provide some additional research tips from time to time and maybe give you some news of Loyalist interest as it pops up.

This site will be open to submissions from the public (see our submissions guidelines), but we ask folks to hold off for the time being while we continue to add our own files. One area that we could use more immediate material for though is the reenactment group section.

As most reenactors know, the 225th anniversary of the American Revolution is upon us, and all groups are looking for new recruits. If you belong to a Loyalist reenactment group that does not yet have a page on our site, please contact your unit commander or appropriate officer about joining us. Simply have them contact either of us and we'll get you up and running in no time.

Well, that's it for now. Take the grand tour, post a query on the Message Board or leave us a note in the Guestbook, and we'll see you next month!
