Claims and Memorials
Witness on behalf of Thomas Johnson of South Carolina

London 17th Octr. 1786

The bearer Thos. JOHNSTON, having applyd to me some time ago, for a certificate of his loyalty, & services, I granted him one with great readiness.

He now informes me that the certificate, which I gave him, has been mislaid at the treasury;

I therefore bear this testimony to his services, in acting on many occasions, as a guide to the Kings troops, in Carolina, with great zeal, and spirit;

and I have also every reason to believe, that he is a proper object for temporary support.

N. BALFOUR

Great Britain, Public Record Office, Audit Office, Class 13, Volume 70b, part 1, folio 303.
