Jamaica Sepr. 1st 1776


I am Ordered by his Exelency the Honorable William HOW Esqr General and Commander in Chief of all his Majesties Forces in North America from Nova Scotia to the Floridas, on the Application of the County of Suffolk by Nathl. WOODHULL & Saml. PHILLIPS who have Signified to him that the Inhabitants of Sd County are desirous to lay down there Armes & Again become legal & Obedient Subjects,

that for the space & ease & Security of the Inhabitants he is willing to accept of their Submission, and Promise Protection on the Kings Colonels or other Inferiors of Militia Respectively making & causing the men through the County to lay down their Armes, take the Oath of Allegiance and Sign the Sd Role of Submission, Disclaiming & Rejecting the Orders of Congress & Committees & Totally Refusing Obedience to them, & to Obey the legal Authority of Government, & in all places of worship in futious to pray for the King and Royal Family as was usual before the present Unprovok't Rebellion.
