Memorial of Joseph Brobston of Pennsylvania

To the Commissioners appointed by Act of
Parliament for enquiring into the Losses and
Services of the American Loyalists.

The Memorial of Joseph BROBSTON late of the City of Philadelphia in the Province of Pensilvania.

Humbly Sheweth

That Your Memorialist was an Inhabitant of the said Province (fourteen Years prior to the late War,) & where Your Memorialist had acquired a handsome Property.

That Your Memorialist took the earliest Opportunity of joining his Majestyís Army at Philadelphia.

That he was employed in the Engineers Department until the Evacuation of Philadelphia.

That in 1779 Your Memorialist embarked for Charlestown South Carolina still being in the said Department, where he continued until the Evacuation of that Place in 1782. That Your Memorialist then went to New York and from thence to Ireland in 1783.

That after his landing in Ireland your Memorialist was visited with a very severe Illness, which deprived your Memorialist of the opportunity of hitherton offering his Claim to be heard before your Board, under either the first or second Act of Parliament.

That Your Memorialist was taken Prisoner in 1781, & unfortunately lost all his Deeds & Papers.

That in Consequence of your Memorialistís Attachment to this Country, Your Memorialist has lost all his Property.

That Your Memorialist is now in the greatest Distress having no means of Subsistance.

Your Memorialist therefore prays that his Case may be taken into your Consideration, in order that Your Memorialist may be enabled under your Report, to receive such aid or Relief as his Losses & Services may be found to deserve.
