The Memorial of James SYMONS

Humbly Sheweth

That your Memorialist from the year 1770 to 1779 resided at Union River, near Penobscot, during which time he had possession of a farm, on which he built a House and Barn, and cleared thirteen acres of tillage and pasture Land.

That from the beginning of the late disputes, his principles being known to be loyal- he was continually subjected to insults from the opposite party and in June 1779 he was mobbed by them, who then took and destroyed in his Field, Grain and Vegetables to a considerable amount.

That on the arrival of the British Forces under Brigr. Genl. McLEAN at Penobscot your Memorialist joined them, took the Oath of Allegiance, assisted in building the Fort, and also in defending it during the Siege-

After which he removed his family to Penobscot, where he built a House and made several Improvements (not supposing the place would have been ceded to the States) and was employed in the Engineers Department untill the Peace- since which he removed to Saint Andrews with his fellow sufferers where he now resides.

Your Memorialist therefore prays your Honors, will consider his subjoined Claim and make such report thereon as to your Judgment his Losses may appear to merit.

James SYMONS

Saint Andrews, New Brunswick
